Careers

On Friday 21st April Bradgate Sixth Form held their annual Careers Fair.  Year 12’s took part in this exciting event which allowed them to take part in seminars, workshops and a ‘Speed Networking’ session.  Our aim was to inform students of some of the many opportunities available to them both at university and in the world of work.  Students arrived dressed for interview on the day and we were most impressed by the efforts they had made.

Students began their day with a seminar delivered by ASK on ‘Apprenticeship and Employment awareness’ followed by the University of Leicester on ‘Why University?’.

Year 12’s then took part in a ‘Speed Networking’ session where they had the opportunity to speak with people from many different professions including Law, the Army, teaching, external and internal trading, Recruitment Manager, Custodial Manager, Project Manager, Community Therapist, administration, engineering, sales, Managing Director, Business Analysis, Social Worker, nursing, risk management, Chartered Town Planner and PR and communications.  Over 30 volunteers from many different companies such as the NHS, Army Careers, GRS Roadstone, Samworth Brothers, Leicester City Council, HSBC, Unipart, Marrons, Johnson Astills, Stepnell, Airpoint Ltd, Carringtons Soliciotrs, Department for Work and Pensions, and Cenex.  We are so grateful for the generous support that our local community gave to us, and our young people found this to be their most enjoyable and informative part of their day.

To finish the event students took part in two workshops designed to prepare them for applications for university, employment and apprenticeships.  The first was a Personal Statement writing workshop delivered by the University of Leicester followed by an Apprenticeship and CV writing workshop delivered by ASK.  Students found both sessions to be informative and beneficial as they begin to think about life after B6.

We would like to take this opportunity to recognise and thank all our guests for their time and expertise; the B6 team and students are indebted, and we are sure students will use their newfound knowledge when taking their next steps.
